I love that the Renaissance pundits
called Vittoria the Divine Colonna.
This is the perfect name for her -
not the given name Vittoria, as her role
as a daughter (and thus a strategic pawn),
not the Marchesa as per her role as a wife
(and thus a widow)
But the role she alone carved for herself
through her intellect, imagination, and will.
I love the Divine Colonna. This is how
I think of her and what I call her in
my imagination now.
